This Webconference will explain data definitions and how administrative data are collected and submitted to Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS), with an emphasis on coded data (International Classification of Disease codes and procedures). The curriculum will also provide participants core information about New York State and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) DRGs that will help in understanding the two DRG systems’ methodologies, benefits, and limitations for comparing data.
This Webconference will also explain how to analyze and compare inpatient hospital statistics and provide an understanding of basic case-mix concepts.
Faculty will provide an in-depth explanation of the benefits of case-mix analysis and the use of sample financial reports and case-mix index to predict expected cash flow. Emphasis will be placed on the differences between New York State and CMS case mix, with details on why and how these two types of case mix should be tracked independently.
