HANYS’ Data Fundamentals: Introduction to Planning will provide a primer for understanding census, demographic, and clinical data classifications and how these data can be effectively used and presented to provide accurate, competitive analyses and patient trends, and assist in projecting future resource utilization.
The program will identify the many sources of health care data and illustrate how key elements should be incorporated in preparing an effective market analysis. The curriculum will also provide core information for understanding market share and competition and, through the use of illustration, describe the steps and process for performing a competitor analysis.
Introduction to Planning is designed for strategic planning, community health, public relations, communications, health information management, and finance professionals.
Faculty will:
- illustrate how to capture meaningful information to better understand the market area;
- explain the purpose of analysis, data for analysis, key elements, and levels of geography and clinical analysis for preparing a patient origin report;
- illustrate the relationship between demographics and clinical activity; and
- explain evidence-based decision making.
At the conclusion of this program, participants will:
- have command of the various data classification systems;
- learn how to prepare an effective market analysis;
- become proficient in their understanding of market trends and projection; and
- understand how to use maps, charts, and tables for presenting information.
