UIS Data System (UDS) collects, edits, and reports data on all inpatient, ambulatory surgery, emergency department, and clinic activity. UDS ensures the quality and accuracy of data collected…data used by various regulatory agencies, including the Department of Health, to monitor hospital volumes, set rates, and evaluate the quality of care. Real-time edits mean speedier completion and submission of data to the Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS), with no rejections, and provides a complete audit trail of all submissions, making SPARCS accounting simple and effective.

Data Extraction

UDS offers:

SPARCS reporting;
Electronic Congenital Malformations Registry reporting;
Exporting of data in XML format for the Quality Indicator Project; and
Exporting in Microsoft Excel format for further data analysis.

Reporting

Standard reports give options for filtering and sorting data, including:

by physician for re-credentialing;
by diagnosis and procedure for clinical studies;
case-mix tracking by payer, coder or physician; and
Core Measures and New York Patient Occurrence Reporting and Tracking System (NYPORTS) for quality evaluation.

All data are available for easy-to-use ad-hoc reporting. Most reports include a preview option before printing.

Editing

SPARCS edits are performed “live” in the system so data can be corrected before submission to SPARCS.
Warning messages alert users that data may be incorrect and should be reviewed.
Informational messages identify cases that meet Core Measures, DOH Registry, or NYPORTS criteria.
Includes Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) warnings specific to the outpatient code editor used for hospitals, including appropriate Correct Coding Initiative and device edits.
LMRP (local medical review policy) warnings for high volume areas including the emergency department.

Disclosure Tracking

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-mandated tracking of the release of protected health information to SPARCS and other state registries in one centralized database.
Other disclosures can also be tracked.
